Revolt, Battle,change

Opening: December 13, 7pm Galeria Luisa Strina is pleased to present its third solo show “Revolt, Battle,Change” by Carlos Garaicoa.

In this third solo show at Galeria Luisa Strina, there will shown the most recent production of tapestries, under the name “Revolt, Battle,Change”, as part of the series “End of Silence”. All these pieces depict floors of old department stores in Havana, with inserted critical notes in order to transform the photographic document that constitutes the core of this proposal. Five new tapestries, especially produced for Galeria Luisa Strina, will be on display this time. Carlos Garaicoa was born in Havana, Cuba (1967), lives and works in Madrid (Spain) and Havana (Cuba).In his work, he analyzes the architecture and urbanism as an image and reflection of political reality and social development. His photography, drawings, sculptures, installations and films draw attention to the crisis and history of urban spaces. The artist has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including Documenta XI (2002), the Venice Biennale (2005, 2009), São Paulo Biennial (2010) and the Havana Biennial (2009, 2012). His works have been exhibited in renowned galleries and exhibitions, such as the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Philadelphia (2007), the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin and Inhotim – Instituto de Arte Contemporânea, Brumadinho, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, (2012).
