Cildo Meireles (Rio de Janeiro, 1948), winner of the Velázquez Prize 2008 is halfway to the neo-Brazilian tradition of the early 60's and his own generation, influenced by the proposals of conceptual art and performance. This exhibition brings together a collection of the most important facilities of its trajectory. Some of them had not been done before, like "Amerikka", and others will be presented for the first time in Spain as "Oblivion" and "Entrevendo".

12 MAY - 7 JULY, CURATED BY: HANS ULRICH OBRIST
In collaboration with Independent Curators International (ICI), Socrates Sculpture Park presents do it (outside), an exhibition conceived of and curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist. With historical antecedents in Dada and Fluxus, do it (outside) is a selection of artists' instructions interpreted by other artists, performers, community groups, and the public. The instructions and resulting works will be presented outdoors utilizing a site-specific design by Christoff : Finio Architecture, the NY-based architecture and design studio of Taryn Christoff and Martin Finio. In the last 20 years, versions of do it have been presented in over 50 venues worldwide, giving new meaning to the concept of the “Exhibition in Progress.”

Mateo López: 'A Trip from Here to There', MoMA, NYC, USA
MATEO LÓPEZ: 'A TRIP FROM HERE TO THERE', MOMA, NYC, USA
15 MARCH - 30 JULY, GROUP SHOW
Over the course of two years, from 2008 to 2010, the artist Mateo López traveled through his native Colombia, from Bogota to Cali to Medellin. Crisscrossing vast expanses of territory via Vespa, López made drawings, rendering the ordinary objects he encountered in precise detail. In a country occupied by government forces and paramilitary rebels, traveling itself—and the diaristic drawing that served as documentation—became an act of resistance. Using López’s Viaje sin movimiento—an installation of his drawings from this journey—as a starting point, A Trip from Here to There explores practices and works generated by walking and wandering. As members of exploratory expeditions and surveys, painters and draftsmen have long played key roles in the plotting and investigation of place. However, in the second half of the 20th century, the journey itself became both medium and subject for many artists. In some works, a walk or sojourn is precisely documented via maps and charts, dates and times, while in others, wandering’s inherent detours and deviations are exploited, resulting in collages of impressions or graphs of explored terrain. For some artists, drawing is both nomadic and solitary, while for others it is a way to engage with one’s environment and its inhabitants.

"This dialogue is fine but a decision is always an alone act. Concepts are never perfect, complete or exhausted. I want to make that fleeting moment permanent somehow. “Your errors are your key”. She made me believe in not linear projects, in parallel or secondary structures, in error and failure as a starting point. Sorry I've just realized I’m thinking about a different work." | Artists: Marcellvs L., Sean Edwards e Guillermo Mora | Curator: Tiago de Abreu Pinto | noestudio64 | C/ Maldonado 64 - Madrid
