A Galeria Luisa Strina apresenta, do dia 2 de Setembro até o dia 6 de Outubro de 2009, a exposição individual e conjunta Padedéu, dos artistas Laura Lima e Jarbas Lopes. A exposição celebra a convivência destes dois artistas há mais de uma década, quando participaram da Mostra Antártica Artes com a Folha em 1996, em São Paulo.
O titulo da exposição surge da sugestão “Pádedê” do artista Cabelo e é adaptado por Laura e Jarbas como Padedéu, significando abundância no imaginário popular. Inicialmente, Laura e Jarbas realizariam projetos individuais expostos em diferentes espaços da Galeria Luisa Strina. A coincidência das datas gerou uma conversa entre os artistas que decidiram realizar certas obras conjuntas partindo do “conceito fluido” de atravessamento, termo cunhado por Laura e o artista Marssares e em trabalhos com Jarbas em diferentes momentos. Atravessamento fala da proximidade e influencia de idéias que se entrelaçam na vida de artistas que convivem, conversam e expõe juntos em uma mesma época. Além disso, os artistas exibirão obras realizadas individualmente em seus ateliers. Conseqüentemente, Padedéu, oferece duas individuais que se apresentam e entrelaçam-se gerando um sentido expandido de suas convivências.
Para Padedéu, Jarbas mostra suas pesquisas com a terra a partir de um entendimento do corpo construindo esculturas, "Montanha Nã" e a "Casulos para uma Nova Geração Humana", entre outras obras. Laura exibe pela primeira vez em São Paulo seus novos trabalhos com a alcunha de "Tarefas Simples", remontando a participação de pessoas em suas obras depois de sua experiência com "Homem=carne/Mulher=carne" (1996-97), trabalho que trata o corpo humano como matéria e é fundamental para a realização de uma idéia. Em “Tarefas Simples”, partes de corpos saem de paredes ou biombos e realizam alguma tarefa, como desenhar com a mão esquerda, ou bater palmas para a "Montanha Nã" de Jarbas. Desta maneira, cria-se um dialogo entre os trabalhos, onde não se dissolvem autorias, mas constroem-se capilaridades.
Laura Lima, 1971, é mineira radicada no Rio de Janeiro e formada em Filosofia pela Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro. Desde o início de seu percurso, trabalha com seres e organismos vivos e tangencia o universo da performance pelo uso do corpo, remontando a idéia de escultura ou de tableaux vivant. Duas vezes convidada da Bienal de São Paulo, participa de diversas exposições no Brasil e no exterior e seu trabalho está em diversas coleções nacionais e internacionais como: o Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo e o Museu de Arte da Pampulha (BH). Laura co-dirige com Ernesto Neto e Márcio Botner a galeria de arte “A Gentil Carioca,” (RJ) e expõe “Nuvem” até o dia 13 de Setembro na galeria da Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim no Rio de Janeiro. É Curadora Adjunta da 7a Bienal do Mercosul a realizar-se este ano entre Outubro e Novembro em Porto Alegre. É ganhadora do Prêmio Marcantônio Vilaça de 2006, entre outros.
Jarbas Lopes nasceu em Nova Iguaçu, RJ, em 1964. Graduou-se em Escultura pela Escola de Belas Artes - EBA da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, em 1992. De 1989 a 1993, pintou e esculpiu para escolas de samba do Rio de Janeiro. Participou de exposições como: “Off the Grid,” na Galeria Lehmann Maupin, em Nova York (2002), 8ª Bienal de Havana (2003), “Gambiarra – New Art from Brazil,” na Gasworks Gallery em Londres (2003), “Cicloviárea,” no Arizona (2007) e “Jarbalópolis” em Nova York (2007). Vencedor da bolsa de Arte da Miami Art Central Debuts Fellowship Program em Coral Gables, Miami. Sua obra faz parte de importantes coleções como Coleção Gilberto Chateaubriand – MAM, Rio de Janeiro, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Nova York e Victoria & Albert Museum, Londres.

Galeria Luisa Strina presents, from September 2nd to October 6th 2009, a solo and collective show Padedéu, by the artists Laura Lima and Jarbas Lopes. This exhibition celebrates the artists’ friendship for over a decade when they both participated in Mostra Antártica Artes with Folha in 1996, São Paulo.
The title of the exhibition comes about from the suggestion “Padedê”, by the artist Cabelo and is adapted by Laura and Jarbas as Padedéu, meaning abundance in Portuguese colloquial language. Initially, Laura and Jarbas were going to present individual exhibitions displayed at different spaces in the gallery. The coinciding dates of both shows created a discussion between the artists who decided to make collective pieces sprung from the “fluid concept” of atravessamento (through over); term coined by Laura and artist Marssares and with Jarbas at certain moments. Atravessamento speaks of the proximity and influence of ideas that intermingle within the lives of artists that converse, live, and exhibit during the same time. Moreover, the artists will display pieces that were made individually in their studios. Consequently, Padedéu brings forth two solo shows that present and entwine with each other adding an expanded meaning to the artists’ cohabitation.
For Padedéu, Jarbas shows his research with earth looked at through an understanding of the body making sculptures, “Montanha Nã” and “Casulos para uma Nova Geração” (Cocoons for a New Human Generation), among other works. Laura shows, for the first time in São Paulo, her new works under the nickname of “Tarefa Simples” (Simple Tasks), rebuilding the participation of people in her works after her experience with “Homem=carne/Mulher=carne” (Man=meat/Woman=meat) (1996-97), work in which the human body is treated as a material and is fundamental to the realization of an idea.
In “Tarefas Simples”, parts of the bodies come out of the walls or folding screens and complete a certain task like: drawing with a left hand, or clapping at Jarbas’ “Montanha Nã.” In this way, a dialogue emerges between the works, where connections are built and authorship is not dissolved.
Laura Lima, 1971, has a degree in philosophy from Rio de Janeiro State University. From the start of her trajectory, she works with creatures and living organisms, converging into the universe of performance through the use of the body and reevaluating the idea of sculpture and of a tableaux vivant. Twice invited to participate in the São Paulo Biennial, Laura participates in numerous exhibitions in Brazil and elsewhere. Her work is part of various Brazilian and international collections such as: Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM) and the Museum of Art of Pampulha (BH). Laura co-directs with Ernesto Neto and Márcio Botner the art gallery “A Gentil Carioca”, (RJ) and exhibits “Nuvem” until September 13th at Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim in Rio de Janeiro. She is the Adjunct Curator of the 7th Mercosul Biennial to take place this year between October and November in Port Alegre. She is the winner of the Marcantônio Vilaça Prize of 2006, among others.
