Jardim do ócio: Galeria Luisa Strina

Overview

Galeria Luisa Strina is pleased to announce Jardim do Ócio [Garden of Idleness], Pedro Motta’s upcoming solo show. On view from 8 November 2018 through 21 December 2018, this exhibition is Motta’s third solo at the gallery, following Campo Fértil [Fertile Field], in 2012and a project in 2007. In this exhibition, Pedro will show his unseen series Jardim do Ócio [Garden of Idleness], composed of about 70 photographs. It is a record of the aspects of the topography of façades of buildings in the periphery of São João Del-rei, suspension of time / space, lapse, postponement of a future project.

In Jardim do Ócio, in exploring the architectural redundancies in the interior of the Minas Gerais state, Pedro Motta combines documentary evidence, showing the similarities and recurrences between constructions, with the record of inventiveness of informal solutions (sometimes in keeping with the neglect of to the recent ruins), which confer individuality to each. The garden that Motta presents to us is not a mild garden, pleasant. It does not necessarily allow itself to delight, since it concentrates in the aridity of a landscape modeled by the subject that inhabits it. Thus, this kind of archeology of the present time operates paradoxically: both as a stimulus to the imagination, a space of fruition and freedom, as the place of impossibility.
